Since 1974 our organistion has been open for three months each summer in the city centre to welcome visitors to Geneva and to provide them with information. Since 1980 our tourist bus has been situatied at the top of Rue du Mont-Blanc, right by the exit of Gare Cornavin. This great location given to us by the City of Geneva enables us to welcome between 12,000 and 13,000 young people each summer, who are eather travelling or living in Geneva.
Since its creation in 1974, the organisation has worked on the issues surrounding welcoming young people to Geneva. This led to the creation of two residences for young people undergoing training of some kind (Le Pertuis in 1975 and Le Voltaire in 1982). We have also contributed to the creation of a cantonal service which helps students to find accommodation.
In October 1998 the C.A.R. initiated and organised the 'Etats généraux du jeune tourisme lémanique' at the Cité Universitaire in order to address both inter-regional and global tourist issues. The conference was attended by around 40 partner organisations.
Since 1993 one of our committee members has been a part of Geneva Tourism. This has enabled us to really promote awareness of the issues that young tourists face within the Geneva Tourism organisation. In this way we have been able to bring young people's issues to the forefront and bring about lasting change.
